On Monday, the first Web3 battle game from Ubisoft called ‘Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles‘ released a free drop of Warlords non-fungible tokens. The 9,999 pixelated Warlords characters sold out quickly and have already done over $3.2 million in sales on the secondary market.

The launch was hyped by a presale of Warlords characters sold to select fans. Afterwards, the free NFTs on Ethereum blockchain flew off the shelves in under 20 minutes.

Now the NFTs have hit secondary marketplaces and are rising in floor price. On OpenSea, they’re currently fetching 0.21 ETH, and at the time of writing have done 1,494 ETH in total sales volume. About 9% of the total NFTs are listed for sale, suggesting that many gamers are hanging onto the NFTs to see what comes next, such as future free mints for holders.

Ubisoft is a gaming company established in the 1980’s in France. It has development studios across the world and is behind over 100 games including Assassin’s Creed, For Honor, Just Dance, Tom Clancy’s and many more. The company generated nearly $2 billion in 2022-23.

In recent months, Ubisoft has made news by partnering with several Web3 companies. However, Champions Tactics is its first official Web3 game that puts NFTs at the forefront of the gaming experience.

According to a report, the Oasys blockchain will be used for future NFT drops and integrations with Champions Tactics to ensure players don’t face high transaction fees — which remains an issue with NFTs on Ethereum. For gamers who didn’t get in on the action, Ubisoft has plans to release a Champions figure drop in the future, though no specific dates for a drop are listed.

Ubisoft Delves Deeper Into Web3

Fans, degens, and gamers who were lucky enough to snag a free Champions Tactics NFT should be excited, especially as the floor price rises. But the Web3 game from Ubisoft isn’t the first thing we’ve seen from the popular gaming company in the space. At Rarity Sniper, we’ve covered several articles about Ubisoft this year. Here are the top stories.

First, about a month ago, Ubisoft partnered with Animoca Brands to integrate Champions Tactics into the ‘Mocaverse,‘ Animoca‘s metaverse world. The game will also be part of the Web3 Frequent Player Program that enables users of the Mocaverse to earn “Realm Points” for playing the game. Those points can be redeemed for digital and real-world perks.

Next, around the same time Ubisoft partnered with Immutable, a top Web3 gaming company. The two companies will work together to integrate decentralized technology in games, with a focus on gameplay and onboarding gamers into Web3.

Lastly, in May, Ubisoft launched an Assassin’s Creed Smart Collectibles NFT collection. The digital collectibles came with a real-life merchandise, including a 3D printed cube of fans‘ favorite characters.

As Web3 gaming continues to gain momentum, it’s no surprise that traditional gaming companies like Ubisoft want in on the action. Gamers will have to wait until sometime in 2024 to give its first Web3 game Champions Tactics a go. But for now, the company and holders have a moment to celebrate the successful NFT drop.
